The associate dean of students provides administrative support to the dean of students, who directs the overall coordination, administration, and program development of functional areas within the Division of Student Affairs. The person in the position exercises independent judgment, handles a highly diversified mixture of responsibilities in one or several specialized areas, and supports the University's core values by providing individualized attention and access to programs and services to underrepresented students. The person may represent or assume authority for the Dean of Students Office in the dean's absence.
The Dean of Students Office at Illinois State University has responsibility for multiple programs and services including student advocacy, problem resolution, basic needs, and crisis response; campus discipline and mediation programs; student legal services; off-campus student services; parent and family services; , student involvement opportunities including sorority and fraternity life, leadership development, registered student organizations, and management of the student involvement center; advisement of the student government association and sorority and fraternity governing and honorary organizations; planning, implementing, and assessing large-scale campus-wide traditional events including commencement, student leader recognition events, student organization involvement fairs, social programming, and fall and spring new student welcome programs.
